Beyond Greta, there is Boyan

There is no question about it, Greta Thunberg has put a lot of power behind the environmental movement with her fiery speeches and stern blick. But what happens then? Boyan Slat will take us there.

This is Boyan Slat, founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup; a company dedicated to getting the plastic out of our water; most notably out of the Pacific Ocean by cleaning up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. Now, don’t feel bad if you don’t know who Boyan is (I know people who work in the industry who don’t know who he is). I only heard about him when he first got his company going and then years later on the Joe Rogan Experience.

A starter problem
I listened to this episode of JRE while working out and I found Boyan to be somewhat reserved, though not quiet. He seemed to be constantly thinking and developing his next idea. He even called cleaning up the Pacific Garbage Patch his “starter problem”, meaning once he gets this done, he will move on to something bigger. And he did it in such a matter-of-fact way that I believed him. The way he talked, I truly believe he and people like him (we need more people like him) will get this and other things done. He inspires without being too “visionary” pointing off into to the future. He is just going to go and do it.

It takes all kinds
Now don’t misunderstand me, a successful movement needs the outgoing activists to make speeches and get people all riled up. But it also needs the people in the background, doing the work.
